2018 NISA Annual Convention - Recap

"PLAY TO WIN!  TECHNOLOGY...AUTOMATION..INTELLINGENCE"     The 2018 NISA Annual Convention was held at The LINQ in Las Vegas, NV 

 

If you didn’t attend, you missed an awesome venue.  Don’t worry more exciting things to come in 2019 for NISA!

Here is a run down of the event in Vegas:

TUESDAY, September 11, 2018
The meeting started off with a NISA Board Meeting on September 11, 2018, Tuesday afternoon.  


WEDNESDAY, September 12, 2018
Peter kicked off the convention by showing the new NISA website, http://www.nisaconnections.com/  to get feedback.  New members, as well as prospective were introduced and welcomed to the association. Our opening Keynote Speaker was Mike Aguilera, International Speaker/Author and Coach.  He presented on Neuro Linguistic Programming surrounding the theme  “Not just for robots anymore!"  His presentation also focused on how to connect with anyone in 90 seconds or less.  View Mike’s presentation here.

After a short break  Mike brought attendees the topic of “Emotional Intelligence and why it’s more important than ever.

We then heard from Jeff Tuisl from Assurance, who gave a short presentation on EEOC current trends.
The day adjourned at 5:00 p.m., followed by a night out with NISA at the CHAYO Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Bar.

THURSDAY, September 13, 2018
The day started with a continental breakfast and networking. 
Our first session was a breakout/brainstorming session on different themes. The topics discussed were 

  • Staying Ahead of the Curve
  • Facebook – What are you doing and What is working for you?
  • Succession Planning - What is your plan?

Mid Morning after a short break was Jeff Sosic with an update on Background Screening and how to keep yourself out of the courts and avoid penalties.  View his presentation here.

After lunch Mike McDonald gave a presentation on "Development of People through Leadership"
 
Highlight of the presentation were: 

  • Traits and behaviors of good leaders
  • Coaching and setting objectives
  • Best practices of Communication skills and method
  • List of Takeaways and flexing your Leadership style

A short break was followed by the NFIB on 2018 Tax Reform and what it means for our business today
Also the Small Business Healthcare plans for the current year were discussed and how election results could impact it.  

FRIDAY, September 14, 2018
Friday Morning was started with a networking breakfast followed by a short presentation by Mark Beverwyk from RISK Management Partners.  It was on the 2018 OSHA Change and what you can expect for 2018

                                                        

The convention wrapped up with closing remarks by Peter.  The Owners meeting is going to be held Las Vegas February 20-21, 2019.   Watch your inboxes for more information and plan on attending this important meeting.   If anyone has suggestions or items they would like to see on the agenda please call or email the NISA Business office.

This year’s Owners Retreat was held at the Crown Plaza in Dallas, TX.  It was great to see that so many of you were able to make it!

The NISA board meeting was held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.  If anyone is interested in seeing the minutes of the meeting, please call or email the NISA Business Office.

The meeting got under way on Wednesday with opening remarks by Peter.  Introductions of our Board members and Exhibitors were announced.  We had a new Member attending with us, Scott Simpson from Precision Staffing. Scott received a special welcome introduction to our meeting.

Bart Bruns from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) had a presentation on the 2018 New Tax Law Bill and its impact to your Business but also your Customers.

Our Keynote Presentation was next with Jeff Tuisl and Jay Shelton from Assurance. Jay gave a presentation on MSP Managed Service Provider.   They also talked about Cyber Security and IT what you should know and ways to stop your company from being 

After Lunch which was sponsored by (Gulf Coast Funding) Evan Rosen from Jackson Lewis put on a Legal Workshop that focused on:

  • Background Checks;
  • DCRA Compliance.;
  • Latest on what to do for Sexual Harassment, best practices for documentation discipline and discharge;
  • One year of Trump what has changed and what is next.

After the last session wrapped up, the group headed to the social event at Ferris Villa Restaurant sponsored by VRAIN and ASSURANCE with more networking of attendees.

Thursday Morning session started with our Event Speaker, Tricia Tamkin from Moore Essentials on the following:

  • Where is the staffing industry going in 5 t o10 years
  • FACEBOOK SOURCING
  • Candidate Engagement
  • Workforce Trends

Tricia’s presentation was followed by a luncheon and a Round Table Discussion. The list of topics included:

  • Stopping Turn over
  • Managing Workers comp claims
  • Redefining your Business what works

The Conference wrapped up with closing comments from Peter.
